Michael Salyzyn, B.Sc, B.Sc. (honors Cert), D.D.S

Mike is a native Nova Scotian who received his Doctor of Dental Surgery from Dalhousie University after completing a Bachelor of Science Honors Certificate in Biochemistry as well as a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. He is focused on comprehensive and compassionate care mixed with a great sense of humour. Mike has a special interest in the use of dental implants as well as computer-aided design and manufacturing of ceramic dental crowns and onlays. He is a member of the Academy for Sports Dentistry, the Nova Scotia Dental Association, the Canadian Dental Association, the Straumann implant study program and well as a lecturer at the Dalhousie Dental School for the past 18 years.

Mike has been selected to be a member of the dental team providing services at the Athlete's Village at Whistler for the 2010 Olympic Games.

In his spare time he is a passionate downhill skier and Vice-President (Operations) for the local chapter of the Canadian Ski Patrol. He also enjoys cycling, golf, and a spirited game of ice hockey. (In fact, just about any sport is fine with Mike.)

Michael Creighan, BSc, DDS

Dr. Mike completed a Bachelor of Science Degree (Biology) in 1991 at the University of Prince Edward Island then followed in his father's footsteps and became a Dentist. He graduated from Dalhousie University, Faculty of Dentistry in 1995. He is a native of Nova Scotia but was raised on P.E.I. Mike believes that everyone deserves access to the best dental care available. He has an easy going personality, great sense of humour and takes his time when discussing treatment options with his patients. Mike is a member of the Canadian Dental Association, Nova Scotia Dental Association and The Academy for Sports Dentistry. He has attended many courses over the years in all aspects of Dentistry but lately he has focused on Oral Surgery, Lasers, CAD/CAM and Sports Dentistry.

In 2011 Dr. Mike was a member of the Dental Staff for the Canada Winter Games and looked after athletes and team staff if they required emergency dental care. In June 2011 he completed training with the Academy for Sports Dentistry and received his Team Dentist qualification. Mike has been working with student athletes at Saint Mary's University for the past three years as a Team Dentist as well as providing emergency and routine dental care to SMU athletes.

Mike is a cancer survivor and uses his own personal experiences as a patient to help him in understanding and caring for his patients. His primary focus when not in the office is his family. He dedicates most of his spare time to his wife, Janice and two children, Liam and Kaitlynn.

Dr. Greg Power, DDS

Dr. Greg Power was born and raised in North Sydney, one of the many little towns in beautiful Cape Breton. Greg attended Cape Breton University and St. Francis Xavier University prior to attending dental school at Dalhousie. During his studies at Dal, he attained a strong sense of delivering quality oral care and continues to enjoy working with all of his patients to provide a healthy smile. Dr. Power enjoys integrating conventional dentistry with the new technology offered by Summit Dentistry to help better the patient experience.

Greg was always longing to be in the health care field, especially dentistry, as he would play dentist with his cousins and friends during elementary school…even going as far as using an over the counter topical anesthetic to give a numbing feeling! When not busy continuing to play dentist, Greg enjoys curling, running, swimming, chilling with friends and taking care of his three cats, Pepper, Pawlie and Phoebe.

Lisa Reid

Lisa has 18 years experience as a Dental Hygienist, 16 years of which she has practiced with Dr. Salyzyn. She graduated from Dalhousie University in 1989 with a Bachelor of Science Degree and decided to further her studies in the field of dentistry, graduating with a Diploma in Dental Hygiene in 1991. Her expertise and passion include working in the field of Periodontics and Orthodontics. Throughout the years she has taken numerous continuing education courses to remain current in the ever changing and evolving field of Dental Hygiene. Originally from Cape Breton, she still makes many trips back with her husband, daughter and son to visit family.

Krista McCarthy

Krista graduated from the Nova Scotia Institute of Technology with a diploma in Dental Assisting in 1986. She has worked as Dr. Salyzyn’s right hand since 1990. Krista continues to update her education and skills as an assistant by taking continuing education courses. Krista enjoys camping with her husband and son; and of course her two golden retrievers. She has also been known to sing the occasional Jimmy Buffet tune!

Alison Murphy

Alison graduated with a diploma in Dental Hygiene from John Abbott College in Montreal. Working at Summit Dentistry has been a great experience because of the team's passion for lifelong learning and loyal patient family. When not at work, she spends time with her three sisters. Alison enjoys playing hockey. She is currently single and saving herself for Sid the Kid.

Jennifer Hawkins

Jennifer proudly hails from "The Rock". A newfie at heart she calls Nova Scotia her home away from home. Originally graduating from Holland College, PEI in 1997 with her Level II Dental Assisting Diploma, she decided to further her education and graduated from Dalhousie University with her Diploma in Dental Hygiene in 2002. Since that time she has been working as part of Dr. Salyzyn's team where she provides periodontal care to her clients and helps motivate them to take an active role in their oral health. She is involved musically in her local church and is also a strong advocate for children's dental health by educating parents in a local community parenting group. She is a proud new mom to 1 year old Matthew.

Melissa Wentzell

Melissa has worked for Dr. Salyzyn since May of 2005. She is a graduate of CompuCollege, attended the Halifax campus and graduated with a diploma in Medical Administration in 2004. She has attended several dental courses, most recently, Great Lakes Education Centre in Detroit, Michigan and is constantly improving her dental knowledge to further assist with our patients needs. Working the front desk, Melissa is one of the first faces you will see and you can count on being greeted with a smile. Originally from Beaver Bank, she enjoys spending time with her family, friends and likes to travel.

Angela

Angela has been employed with Dr. Salyzyn since May of 2008 as one of his friendly dental administrative assistants. She has seven years of experience working in other dental offices, ranging from being the Hygiene Coordinator to the Practice Manager of a busy downtown dental office. She had the opportunity to participate in the Las Vegas Extravaganza for Discus Dental, where William Dorfman from the hit show Extreme Makeover was one of the many guest speakers. Angela is blessed with two beautiful boys and a loving husband. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends, taking walks, running and traveling.

Karen Keddy

Karen has been a part of the team since June of 2008. She graduated from the International School of Art in 1994 with a diploma in Art Medium and Art History and from Nova Scotia Community College-Kingstec Campus in 1997 with a diploma in Office Administration. She has been working in the dental field for 10 years now and is thrilled to be settled at a practice that is so focused on bringing their patients the latest and best in dental technology. Karen also has a thriving art production business and her tile mosaic pieces can be viewed in many Nova Scotia museums and are also displayed internationally. Her favorite things are her Maltese named Murphy, her family & friends, and hearing Melissa's weekend shenanigans!, wine, shoes and shopping.

Melissa Bromley

Melissa completed her diploma in Dental Assisting at Canadore College in North Bay ON. She worked for over 10 years as a dental assistant before working at Canadore College for two years in the Dental Hygiene and Dental Assisting Program. When her family was transferred to Nova Scotia, she was happy to stay home with her children for a year. Now that her children are in school she was ready to get back into the working world. Melissa joined the Summit Dentistry team as the new Treatment Coordinator. She loves to help our patients understand their dental treatments and assist them in understanding their insurance coverage.

Jessica Boudreau

Jessica recently completed her Office Administration Diploma at NSCC-Waterfront in Dartmouth. A new addition to the Summit team, and has been working with us since June, 2011. Her main focus has been to work in the medical field and is extremely excited to have found her spot in such a patient focused practice . Currently living in Dartmouth, Jessica grew up in the Windsor Junction area. In her spare time, she enjoys weekends at the cottage, spending time with friends and family and endless shopping!

Sarah Outerleys

Sarah is the newest hygienist to join the team at Summit Dentistry. She is a 2007 STFX grad where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology . Sarah continued her education at Dalhousie University where she received her RDH diploma in 2010. Sarah is a true valley girl but decided to settle down in the "big city" of Halifax and start her hygiene career. Sarah's friendly personality and clinical knowledge makes her excellent at educating patients about their oral health, as well as making her patients feel comfortable during their visit. Sarah is known for her big smile and her tendency to breakout singing, whenever, wherever. Sarah can be found with her nose stuck in a good novel, at the gym, spending time outdoors or feet up with a big bowl of popcorn watching a good movie. Sarah looks forward to meeting you and your smile!

Karlee Edmonds

Karlee has recently graduated from NSCC-IT where she received her diploma in Dental Assisting level II. She joined the Summit team in July 2011 assisting Dr. Power. She is thrilled to be part of a great team here at Summit where she can apply the skills and techniques that she learned to treating patients. Karlee grew up in Mount Uniacke where she lived with her parents and siblings. She recently settled in Bedford where there is more convenience and she is closer to work. Karlee has one brother and one sister. In her spare time she enjoys outdoor activities, spending time with friends and family, a little shopping here and there, music and her cat Milo. She also enjoys traveling abroad where she can learn about new cultures; the Dominican Republic is so far her favourite destination. Karlee is known to always have a smile on her face!
